WUNC has served North Carolina with trusted, independent journalism for nearly 50 years. But right now, that legacy is under threat.
Congress has passed the White House’s rescission bill, eliminating $1.1 billion in federal funding for public broadcasting nationwide and immediately stripping WUNC of $800,000 in annual support.
This is a devastating blow. That funding sustained WUNC's newsroom, supported NPR programming, and kept us strong in moments of crisis.
We will continue to serve this community with everything we have. But the loss of these funds creates immediate and significant challenges, and the path forward will not be easy.
WUNC has always been powered by listeners and readers like you. If you believe that public media should remain a vital, independent source of news and connection for our community, now is the time to act.
Make a contribution today and help ensure our community doesn’t lose this essential service.

“WUNC provides me with a trustworthy news source. I feel a duty, especially in light of Congress’ rescission of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s funding, to help support the information that we, as Americans, deserve.” – Michael from Cary
